CHEVY CHASE LEADERSHIP INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Fall 2006

For consideration turn complete application no later then Friday, April 14, 2006

There is a deepening concern in many quarters of society about the decline of leadership in the United States. As individuals limit their participation in public life, all facets of society are affected. Well-designed internship and leadership experiences provide pathways for college students to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others, but are often treated as separate and distinct experiences.

The Career Center in partnership with the Maryland Leadership Development Program will provide you with opportunities to develop your leadership capacities. This will be achieved through Chevy Chase Leadership Internship Program (CCLIP). The CCLIP provides University of Maryland undergraduate students with the unique opportunity to integrate leadership concepts through academic courses, an internship, and a team project.

Purpose:
To prepare students for civic leadership in the world of work through interdisciplinary learning focused on:
  • Personal development
  • Understanding organizational structures and complex systems
  • Community involvement
Structure:
The Chevy Chase Leadership Internship Program (CCLIP) will blend academic rigor (classroom learning), concrete experience (paid internship), and active experimentation (funded team project) over two academic semesters. Interested students may elect to continue their involvement as paid leadership educators during the year following the program.

Student Cohort:
Each year, twelve to fifteen students of junior standing (60 credit hours) will be selected constitute the cohort of Chevy Chase Leadership Program Interns. A diverse group of students with a wide variety of career interests will be recruited from all twelve colleges to establish the cohort. Students will bring to the learning community an array of experiences on campus and beyond. Both established student leaders and those new to leadership who are interested in exploring their leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

The program is open to students who already have identified their spring internship experience as well as those who are who are still looking for an internship.
