What is FOCUS 2?

FOCUS 2 is a Web-based, personalized career and education planning system based on established career and counseling principles. It provides a complete picture of your interests, values, personality, skills, and leisure activities using self-assessment questionnaires, interest inventories and personality testing. After assessing your personal attributes, the system searches its career and occupational information database to identify and analyze occupations and career paths that match your personal characteristics.

How to register:
FOCUS 2 is free for University of Maryland College Park undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni/ae.  Click the link under "New to Focus 2." Fill out the form including the access code, goterps. Your name and university ID will be automatically checked against the master student database. You will be able to choose your username and password when registering.

Now what?
After logging in, navigate through the program using the red buttons at the bottom of the screen. You may need to scroll down to see these buttons. On the Main Menu, the program will keep track of your progress with check marks for each phase on the Main Menu.

Printing Reports:
Using the red buttons marked Reports at the bottom of the Main Menu, select the reports you desire to print. Remember to collect these print outs for your later review.

Exiting and Saving Information:
Exit the program by clicking the red button marked Exit and answer the questions.

Next steps:
You may visit the program as often as you like. It's a source for career information whenever you need it. You will probably find FOCUS results easy to understand and what your next steps should be. But if not, schedule an appointment with a counselor to review the results and discuss career options. When scheduling an appointment, tell the staff member that you need an interpretation of Focus 2.
