Internships
Getting Experience without Having Experience
You may have more experience
than you think! Describe the specific tasks for academic work, volunteer
jobs, and clubs.
Add
a "Coursework" section
to your resume
Under your Education
section, list a few courses that you have taken that
provide you with knowledges and skills related to the
internship sought. Don't list the
courses that everyone takes. List electives and those
that you were not
required to take.
Add
a "Project" section
to your resume
List
the projects, experiences,
lab work, presentations,
etc. that you have completed
in your classes and that
prepare
you to excel as an intern.
For example, Life Sciences
majors can list labs
and experiments they
have completed. Communication
majors can list speeches
they gave publicly
or news briefs they authored.
Government and Politics
majors can list papers
they have written that
give them insight into
the profession. Reflect
on your projects
in order to highlight
your transferable skills
and abilities.
Restructure
your resume to include
a "Related Experience" section
Create
a "Related Experience" section or "Experience"
section rather than the traditional "Work
Experience" section.
Within this section,
list all your volunteer,
community service, and
student organization
involvements
in addition to highlighting
your work experiences.
