Key Elements
of Interviewing
Keep these
three key points in mind and your interview should go well.
Maintain
Your Self-Esteem
Everyone
is nervous about job interviewing. The key to feeling good is being well
prepared.
Try to separate your personal
self from any possible rejection. Employers can have hundreds of
applicants for a single position. A rejection might mean your
skills and experiences don't match as well as someone else's, not that
you are incompentent.
During the job search, surround yourself with people
who are supportive of you and your job search. These people will come
in handy during tough times.
An Interview is a Conversation
An interview
is a conversation between two people (or more if it is a panel interview).
You are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you.
Therefore, use the interview as an opportunity to learn if the position
and organization fits your interests and personality.
Anyone and
Everyone Affects the Hiring Decision
Although
your interviewer might be the hiring manager of a division, the
president of a small company,
or the director of personnel, you're being judged the moment you enter
the office.
You never know who will have an impact on the
hiring decision. So once you step through that front door or off that
elevator, make sure that you are friendly, cordial, and positive with
everyone you meet—including the receptionist and/or the administrative
assistant for your interviewer.
